Farm Supervisor

Job Description

As a Farm Supervisor at EZ Grow Farms, you will oversee daily agricultural operations, ensuring efficiency, productivity, and adherence to safety and quality standards. You will lead a team of farm workers, manage crop production, and coordinate with management to optimize farm performance.Key Responsibilities:
  1. Team Leadership & Workforce Management
    • Supervise and train 15–25 farm workers, assigning daily tasks (planting, irrigation, harvesting, pest control).
    • Conduct morning briefings to outline work priorities and safety reminders.
    • Monitor employee performance, provide feedback, and assist with conflict resolution.
  2. Crop & Field Operations
    • Plan and execute planting schedules, ensuring optimal seed spacing, soil health, and irrigation.
    • Monitor crop growth, identifying signs of disease, pests, or nutrient deficiencies.
    • Oversee harvesting operations, ensuring produce is picked at peak ripeness and handled properly.
    • Maintain farm equipment (tractors, tillers, irrigation systems) and schedule repairs.
  3. Safety & Compliance
    • Enforce OSHA and farm safety protocols (PPE, chemical handling, machinery use).
    • Conduct weekly safety meetings and emergency drills (e.g., heat stress response).
    • Ensure compliance with organic/food safety certifications (if applicable).
  4. Record-Keeping & Reporting
    • Track daily labor hours, crop yields, and equipment usage.
    • Report progress to Farm Manager, suggesting improvements for efficiency.
    • Maintain inventory logs for seeds, fertilizers, and tools.
  5. Problem-Solving & Adaptability
    • Adjust work plans due to weather disruptions (e.g., rescheduling harvests during rain).
    • Troubleshoot equipment failures or labor shortages.

Job Requirement

Education & Experience:
  • Minimum 3 years of farm supervisory experience (or 5+ years as a senior farm worker).
  • Diploma in Agriculture, Horticulture, or related field (preferred but not required).
Skills & Competencies:
  • Ability to motivate teams and delegate tasks effectively.
  • Basic knowledge of farm equipment maintenance.
  • Capable of working 10–12 hour days outdoors in all weather.
  • Fluent in English (French or other languages a plus).
  • Problem-Solving: Quick decision-making for crop/labor challenges.
Work Environment:
  • 90% outdoors (exposure to sun, rain, dust).
  • Seasonal intensity: 50–60 hours/week during planting/harvest; 40 hours off-season.
  • Travel: Occasionally between farm sites in Ontario.
