Food Supervisor

Job Description

As the Food Supervisor at EZ Grow Farms, you will oversee all food production, packaging, and safety operations to ensure the highest quality standards for our farm-fresh products. You will lead a team of food handlers, enforce strict hygiene protocols, and maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

1. Food Production & Quality Control

  • Supervise daily operations in food processing, packaging, and labeling (fresh produce, value-added products).
  • Implement and monitor quality control checks (size, color, ripeness, defects) before packaging.
  • Ensure compliance with CFIA, FDA, and HACCP standards for food safety.
  • Oversee sanitation procedures (equipment cleaning, facility hygiene, pest control).

2. Team Leadership & Training

  • Manage 10–15 food handlers, packers, and machine operators.
  • Conduct training sessions on proper food handling, GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices), and allergen control.
  • Schedule shifts and monitor productivity to meet daily/weekly output targets.

3. Compliance & Documentation

  • Maintain detailed records of production batches, temperature logs, and sanitation reports.
  • Ensure all packaging meets labeling laws (ingredients, allergens, expiry dates).

4. Process Improvement & Safety

  • Identify inefficiencies in production and recommend workflow improvements.
  • Enforce strict PPE policies (hairnets, gloves, sanitized footwear).
  • Investigate and resolve food safety incidents (contamination, spoilage).

5. Inventory & Supply Management

  • Monitor raw material and packaging inventory, placing orders as needed.
  • Coordinate with farm and logistics teams to ensure timely product movement.

Job Requirement

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Agriculture, or related field (preferred).
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience in food production/packaging.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of food safety regulations (CFIA, FDA, FSMA).
  • Attention to detail (able to spot quality deviations quickly).
  • Leadership & communication (bilingual English/French a plus).
  • Problem-solving (e.g., troubleshooting equipment delays).

Work Environment

  • Fast-paced, seasonal peaks (harvest months require overtime).
  • Physical demands: Standing for long periods, lifting up to 40 lbs.
